The majority of our bodies are comprised of liquid, so staying hydrated is essential for life.  Below are basic items to have ready for either pouring, a beer, a shot, or a glass of wine.

8 Wine Glasses

8 Shot Glasses

Wine opener

2 Bottle openers (because you always lose one)

Coasters

Red Solo cups (you never know when a Beer Pong or Flip Cup game may happen)

Depending how much you entertain or how many roommates you have will determine how many additional glasses you’ll need (the more glasses you have the less you’ll run the dishwasher).  If you are entertaining by the pool or if you have a large number of guests, it might be best to invest in an emergency set of plastic cups.  Broken glass by the pool will not help you make friends with your apartment manager, nor will it increase your chances with the women...

Although you may not be a wine drinker (yet), your guest(s) may be.  Always have a bottle of chilled white wine in your fridge and a bottle of red wine in your pantry or closet.  When your date comes over you’ll be prepared.  Opening the bottle of wine is a great way to start the evening. You can even open a conversation by providing a bit of background knowledge on the wine (just read the label or Google it).

For a well stocked bar follow the rule of thumb below.

You may already have a palate for wine, if not, below are just a few suggestions. If you're not a regular wine drinker, there will come a time in your life where having a bit knowledge will give you an edge; at a business dinner, on a date, or when pairing food.  Who know, you might even want something different than beer when coming home from work.

As for beer, always have your standard stuff, but have a more premium beer available too.  Eventually you might want to enjoy the complexities of a micro brew over that of a mass produced beer.
